The season’s coming to a close and you wish you could hang on to the great people you hired for these temporary positions. What if you could do just that?
Make sure your seasonal employees feel part of the same team as your full-time workers. Let them know that you value their feedback and input and how much you appreciate them. Involve them in staff meetings and other activities to make them feel part of the whole.
Having a staff party at the end of the season will be a welcoming thank-you from your temporary employees and may be seen as a much needed break from your full-time staff! Establishing a strong team now will help you cement your staff for next year.
Follow up throughout the year with your seasonal employees. Send them invitations to other staff-only events to show them that you have not forgotten them and that you consider them an on-going member of the team.
Let them know how much you would like them to return to you for the next season. You may find you do not have to recruit as hard or as often for new people if the ones you have are willing to return.
A personal phone call goes a long way. This will also help you to verify and update any contact information they may have given you.
Make sure the compensation package you offer to your seasonal employees is competitive. For the most part money is the mitigating factor for seasonal employees. Simply put, if you are not offering a package that is attractive, your employees will find an employer who is.
The saying ‘good help is hard to find’ is quite true. So why not put in the extra effort to retain the good help you had?
